Febrileseizuresareconvulsionsthatcanoccurinyoungchildren,typicallybetweentheagesof6monthsand5years,whentheyhaveahighfever,oftenduetoaninfection.Theseseizuresarethemostcommontypeofseizureinchildrenandaregenerallynotharmful,thoughtheycanbefrighteningforparentstowitness.Febrileseizuresareclassifiedintotwotypes:simplefebrileseizures,whichlastlessthan15minutesanddonotrecurwithin24hours,andcomplexfebrileseizures,whichlastlonger,mayrecurwithin24hours,orinvolveonlyonepartofthebody.Mostchildrenoutgrowfebrileseizuresbythetimetheyreachschoolage,andtheconditiondoesnotusuallyleadtoepilepsyorlong-termneurologicalproblems.Treatmentfocusesonmanagingtheunderlyingfeverandinfection,andmedicalevaluationisrecommendedtoruleoutmoreseriousconditions.
